Waste - The Social Context '08: Urban Issues and Solutions

Sustainable waste management is critical to the health and well-being of all people. While many conferences focus on the technical aspects of waste management, Waste—The Social Context ’08 is unique in addressing the environmental, social and economic implications. Topics will include public perceptions and behaviour, social forces influencing waste streams, environmental policy, waste management in urban settings, stakeholder participation, developing countries and countries in transition, international trade in waste products, and waste economics, among others. The keynote speaker will be Heather Rogers, acclaimed journalist, filmmaker, and author of “Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage.” Approximately 400 international decision-makers, researchers, practitioners and other stakeholders are expected to attend the conference.
