yesterday that recent media reports from Britain had drawn its
attention to the issue of waste material being smuggled into China.
SEPA has ordered environmental authorities in the Guangdong Province
to launch an immediate investigation, focussing on the area around
Lianjiao Village in Foshan City, which has been identified as a
centre for plastics reprocessing. Efforts to improve legislation

Finland to triple biowaste burning

A national waste plan proposed by the Finnish environment ministry on
Tuesday envisages a major expansion of incineration to help achieve
EU targets for diverting biodegradable wastes from landfill.
The plan envisages that 31 per cent of municipal waste will be burned
by 2016, compared with 9 per cent in 2003. There is currently only
one municipal waste incinerator in Finland. Several more will need
to be built...

Polyester Polyols from Renewable and Waste Raw Materials
A Polish research institute is one of the leaders in the field of industrial chemistry. The institute offers an innovative technology of production of polyester polyols using low-cost renewable, vegetable oils and waste plastic recyclate from used PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles. The technology considerably cuts the costs of the raw materials being applied for the production of polyurethane coatings and foamed plastics.
