Economical and sustainable pavement infrastructure for surface transport
The seminar will present the research of the EU FP6 project “EcoLanes” , which aims to develop pavements for surface transport by using steel fibre reinforced concrete and slip forming techniques, based on existing asphalt laying equipment.
EcoLanes aims to reduce construction costs (10-20%) and time (15%), maintenance needs as well as energy consumption (40%) in road construction. The project uses waste materials (e.g. tyre-steel cord) and aims to make tyre recycling more economically

Foamed plastics based on renewable and waste polyester polyols
A Polish scientific institute specialises in research for applications in industrial chemistry. The institute offers a technology of foamed plastics for construction and thermal insulation materials based on renewable (agricultural) and waste polyester polyols. Modular waste incineration plant with reduced flue gas cleaning residues
A German research institute has developed a modular incineration plant that can be flexibly adapted to changes and is ready to enable to energetically utilise different refuse derived fuels directly on site. Applications are in power, heat or process steam generation. Flue gas cleaning residues are reduced to a minimum. Plasma-technology-based treatment of chemical hazardous wastes
An Israeli company has developed a plasma-technology-based solution to treat various types of hazardous wastes in chemical industries. Advantages over current methods include safe reuse/disposal of the resulting products with no threat to the environment, and ability of on-line treatment of the waste products as (and in the very place where) they are formed. New materials for building and infrastructure industry based on recycled waste
A Belgian company offers a wide range of applications (bricks, panels, etc.) made of recycled waste. Their formulations are suitable for all construction techniques (injection, projection, moulding, prefabrication, finished products, etc.) and offer an economic and environmental solution for recycling of numerous wastes.
