The seminar will present the research of the EU FP6 project “EcoLanes” , which aims to develop pavements for surface transport by using steel fibre reinforced concrete and slip forming techniques, based on existing asphalt laying equipment. EcoLanes aims to reduce construction costs (10-20%) and time (15%), maintenance needs as well as energy consumption (40%) in road construction. The project uses waste materials (e.g. tyre-steel cord) and aims to make tyre recycling more economically attractive. Opens E-Scrap Facility in NY 25/04/2007 (recyclingtoday.com) WeRecycle!, Inc. is expanding its recycling capacity by opening a 56,600 square-foot facility in Mount Vernon, N.Y., just outside of New York City. The facility, expected to open by July 1, 2007, will provide local recycling infrastructure to process electronic waste generated in New York City.... Council shapes up for agreement on EU waste law 24/04/2007 (endseuropedaily.com) EU governments are on course to agree a first-reading position in June on a revision of the bloc's legislative framework for waste treatment. Several issues remain to be resolved but a deal is expected to emerge by the time of an environment council scheduled for 28 June, sources say. Junior EU diplomats are holding two further meetings on the draft legislation this week and the file will move to senior officials next month....  Advanced building materials obtained by geopolymerisation A Greek technical university has developed an innovative technology for production of high-added-value products by geopolymerisation of aluminosilicate solids, materials and industrial wastes. The university now seeks partners for technical co-operation, license or those interested in purchasing the know-how. (Ref: 06 GR IHCR 0F96 - 08/05/2007) Foamed plastics based on renewable and waste polyester polyols A Polish scientific institute specialises in research for applications in industrial chemistry. The institute offers a technology of foamed plastics for construction and thermal insulation materials based on renewable (agricultural) and waste polyester polyols. The institute is interested in licensing the technology as well as in other forms of co-operation. (Ref: 07 PL SPOP 0HX3 - 07/05/2007) Modular waste incineration plant with reduced flue gas cleaning residues A German research institute has developed a modular incineration plant that can be flexibly adapted to changes and is ready to enable to energetically utilise different refuse derived fuels directly on site. Applications are in power, heat or process steam generation. Flue gas cleaning residues are reduced to a minimum. Industrial and research partners are sought for technical co-operation, optimisation, implementation and further development. Advantages over current methods include safe reuse/disposal of the resulting products with no threat to the environment, and ability of on-line treatment of the waste products as (and in the very place where) they are formed. The company is looking for creating joint venture & commercial agreement with chemical & other plants. Their formulations are suitable for all construction techniques (injection, projection, moulding, prefabrication, finished products, etc.) and offer an economic and environmental solution for recycling of numerous wastes.
