'Zero waste' drive planned in Scotland

In a statement to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday, Environment
Secretary Richard Lochhead outlined ministers' ambitions to recycle
or compost at least 50% of municipal waste by 2013, rising to at
least 60% by 2020 and a minimum of 70% by 2025.
The government aims to reduce the amount of landfilled municipal
waste to a maximum of 5% by 2025 and allow only a quarter of
household waste - 4% of the country's waste - to be treated by small,

Treatment and recycle of effluents from textile dyeing/finishing processes
An Italian company operating in the textile sector had developed a treatment plant for dyeing/finishing wastewaters. A sequence of three different technologies allows the reuse of purified effluents. The company is looking for end users, technology providers or research centres interested in full-scale development of the process. Use of de-inking sludge from the paper industry for heavy metal removal
A Spanish research group has developed a new technology that allows recycling the de-inking sludge and other organic waste coming from the manufacture of recycled paper, for removing heavy metals in water dilution. Purification of finishing wastewater and recycling of the treated water in the production department
An Italian research centre has developed in pre-industrial scale a prototype for the treatment of finishing textile wastewaters. The effluent from the pilot plant can be recycled to the production department so that the freshwater needs are lower. Directional aeration for compost scheme
A Welsh company has developed a directional aeration system for compost schemes. This has the potential to satisfy Animal By-Product Regulations (ABPR) for food waste without the expense of in-vessel composting. The technology can also be used to dramatically speed up in-vessel methods and can be retrofitted to existing systems.
