 Biotechnology for the conversion of waste into added value products A Spanish research centre has developed a new biotechnology that, using an optimised fermentation process, transforms agro-food waste (i.e. cheese whey) into added value products (i.e. bio-ethanol). The used fermentative microorganisms are immobilised in a hydrogel matrix. The centre is looking for agro-food industries that want to apply this technology to their specific wastes.(Ref: 08 ES NWPT 0JQZ - 13/02/2008) New procedure for composting of solid-phase animal manure A Hungarian SME has developed a new procedure for composting of solid- and liquid-phase animal manure. The offered composting technology is used for composting of different kinds of solid- and liquid-phase feedlot manures. It makes a compost end product that has high fertilising value, organic matter and harmonious trace element content. The technology can be used by all kinds of animal husbandry companies. The system can be adjusted to handle any output size needed, from several inches down to microns.
