Sharp increase in European waste trade

Cross-border shipments of waste from EU countries have "increased significantly" in the last decade, according to a report published on Monday by researchers at the European topic centre on resource and waste management. Design of practical heterogeneous catalysts for the biodiesel reaction
A Spanish university is working on the design of practical heterogeneous catalysts for the biodiesel production. This technology would allow avoiding the complex separation operations of the conventional homogeneous alkali-catalysed process as well as the use of low-cost raw materials (cooking waste oils and animal fats). The research group is looking for companies interested in the development of joint research projects and in developing commercial agreements (Ref: 08 ES MADG 0JZ1 - 10/03/2008)

Bioenergetic strategy for treating phenolic compounds with microalga Scenedesmus obliquus, using different light and carbon sources
A Greek research group has developed a process using microalgae to biodegrade toxic compounds such as phenols, which are abundant in industrial wastes, in petroleum oil spills and in olive mill wastes. The group is looking for research institutes or industrial partners for joint development of commercial applications, possibly under a technical cooperation or a joint venture agreement (Ref: 08 GR IHET 0JVC - 06/03/2008)
