UK: Green light for super incinerator

Plans to build Europe's biggest incinerator in south east London have
been given the go ahead by Government.
The 72MW waste-to-energy plant will be built in Belvedere by
Riverside Resource Recovery Ltd, a stone's throw from Thames Water's
existing sludge incinerator at Crossness.

UK: Shredder firms to ban tyres from feedstock

All 16 shredder operating companies in the UK are to ban tyres from
their feedstock, the British Metals Recycling Association has
announced.
The ban could mean that more tyres are flytipped by some vehicle
dismantlers who do not have arrangements for recycling or recovery,
which can cost about £100 per tonne of tyres. On a day-to-day basis
it will mean shredder operators turning away deliveries of
end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) with tyres still on them, or loads which
contain tyres baled within scrap cars.

California Mandates Recycled Carpet Usage for State Buildings

UK Authority Looks to Establish HDPE Recycling Plant

A new capital support competition has been launched by the Waste &
Resources Action Programme to encourage closed-loop recycling of
post-use HDPE plastic bottles in food contact applications,
specifically milk bottles.
The Open Tender competition will build on a WRAP development project
completed last year, which demonstrated that HDPE milk bottles could
be recycled into new ones on a commercially viable and
environmentally sound basis.

A Polish research institute is one of the leaders in the field of industrial chemistry. The institute has developed a novel technology of production of unsaturated polyester resins using PET (polyethylene terephthalate) waste as one of the starting materials. As a result the cost of raw materials is considerably reduced whereas the quality remains competitive. The institute is looking for partners to license the technology

Innovative process for recycling plastic materials
An innovative process for recycling plastics (polycarbonate) was developed by an Italian research group. Polycarbonate recovery obtains a particularly pure reusable product. Besides, using this method drastically reduces the whole waste amount. During the treatment it is possible to separate other materials, obtaining further profits. The research group will evaluate different kinds of collaboration with companies involved in recycling plastics
